Deadly weapons of the Ukrainian uprising – After the Revolution – Part 2
In early 2014 deadly protests and violent clashes eventually forced the Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych out of office.
This was a modern revolution supported by social media campaigns and live video streaming allowing the moment to grow fast both at home and abroad. It started with peaceful student protests, angry at the crimes of the political classes and the government policy aligning the country with Russia rather than the European Union.
When the Kyiv “Berkut” Riot police violently beat back the peaceful protests, less peaceful groups decided to get involved. It was the efficiency of these civilian groups to militarize
themselves with the most basic of materials that lead to an extreme escalation of violence and death.
