“Maidan is one big checkpoint” – Why protesters won’t leave the square
Members of People’s Movement of Ukraine talk about why they will not leave Maidan, Kyiv’s Independence Square.
Member of People’s Movement of Ukraine:
Now there is a war in the East,
there are a lot of “checkpoints” in Donbass.
And if we leave Maidan, there is a huge probability that separatists will occupy this place,
these buildings, like they did in Odessa,
and their Antimaidan will start here.
So our Maidan is like a huge checkpoint,
our front line.
And we can’t leave this place, because there is a war.
Our people are standing on different checkpoints,
and we are standing here, on this checkpoint.
Labazov Viktor Stanislavovych – Deputy head of the People’s Movement of Ukraine:
I would say in a simple and philosophical way that “life will show”.
Seriously, [we won’t leave] until drastic fundamental change happens in our society occur.
